Super Bowl Squares isn’t just limited to your Big Game home party anymore.

DraftKings Sportsbook has taken the long-standing 100-square grid game and once again is including DK Squares odds to its extensive array of betting props for Super Bowl 58 between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs (6:30 p.m. ET, Feb. 11).

The concept is the same as the the on-paper grid: If your allotted number combination matches the last two digits of the two teams’ scores at certain points in the game — i.e. 7 and 3 for a 49ers 17-13 halftime lead — you’re a winner.

Below, we dive deeper into DK Squares and highlight some strategies to boost your chances of winning.

And for more on Big Game betting in general, visit our dedicated Super Bowl 58 odds page.

The most important difference between DK Squares and your in-house squares grid is that you’re choosing your number combinations ahead of time.

So instead of paying $10 apiece to select squares on a blank grid and then having the team score numbers assigned at random, you can cherry-pick your desired score combos from the jump — and wager however much you want on each.

So no longer are you stuck with unlikely 5-5, 9-2, 5-1 and 2-6 score combos among your five purchased squares at $50 apiece.

In DK Squares, though, the odds for each combo are adjusted according to probability.

For instance, as of this writing more than a week before the Feb. 11 kickoff, here were the six DK Squares Any Quarter score pairings with the highest odds:

  • Chiefs 0, 49ers 0 (+250)
  • Chiefs 0, 49ers 7 (+295)
  • Chiefs 7, 49ers 0 (+300)
  • Chiefs 0, 49ers 3 (+360)
  • Chiefs 3, 49ers 0 (+370)
  • Chiefs 7, 49ers 7 (+370)

No surprises there.

But if still do want to pair your lucky numbers of 5 and 9, you can get +6000 and +6500 odds, respectively, on those long-shot, lottery-ticket combos.

Again, what we’ve just covered is the “Any Quarter” DK Squares option which pays out at the end of every quarter and the game itself, with the fourth quarter including overtime.

Do note, though, that unlike your traditional Super Bowl squares grid, winning DK Squares selections are only paid once at the conclusion of the first winning quarter. So if you have 0-0, there’s no doubling up after the end of a scoreless first quarter and on the 30-20 final score.

Then there’s also the DK Squares Final Result version which pays out strictly on the final score itself.

These odds and payouts are much larger, and the favored score combos differ as well with 7-0, 0-7 and Chiefs 4-49ers 7 topping the list at +2200 odds or lower.

In terms of the Super Bowl, there is data from 57 previous games to analyze.

The website PrintYourBrackets.com has conveniently totaled how often each of the 50 possible numeric combos turned up at end of the 228 quarters/games. (And note it is 50 combos here instead of 100 as, for instance, 7-0 and 0-7 are treated as one pairing).

Anyway, here are the 13 most frequent end-of-quarter pairings from Super Bowls I-LVII:

  • 3-0 and 7-0: 20 occurrences apiece (8.77 percent)
  • 0-0: 19 occurrences (8.33%)
  • 7-3: 18 occurrences (7.89%)
  • 4-0: 12 occurrences (5.26%)
  • 7-4: 11 occurrences (4.82%)
  • 3-3 and 7-7: 8 occurrences apiece (3.51%)
  • 9-0, 7-1, 7-6, 6-0 and 6-3: 7 occurrences apiece (3.07%).

For the final score, it’s a bit different, naturally, with 7-4 (five times, 8.77%) and the pairings of 7-3, 7-1, 5-1 and 4-1 (all 3 times, 5.26%) turning up most often over the Big Game’s 57-contest history.

So the basic strategy is to compare the implied probabilities of the DK Square combo odds with the pairings above and look for the biggest discrepancies.

Of course, past performance does not guarantee future results so use those comparisons only as as a rudimentary guideline.

Your best bet might be to pick your favorite three of the top six or seven DK Any Quarter combos with the highest odds. And if even one hits during any portion of the game, you’ll most likely come away with a profit.

Just know there’s always an outside chance for chaos as a missed extra point or a fluke safety in the opening quarter of Super Bowl 58 could skew the score for the rest of the game.

In that scenario, your lucky 5-9 combo just might net a nice payout.
