Drake bets $1m on Lionel Messi's Argentina to beat France and win World Cup

Fans are fearful Drake has cursed Lionel Messi and Argentina after he bet more than £800,000 on them to beat France in the World Cup final.

The Canadian rapper is infamous for backing the wrong horse in sporting events. A theory emerged in the 2010s that he was "cursed" after he repeatedly wore kits and merchandise from teams who would go on to lose.

And in more recent times he's become a big gambler - more often than not getting it wrong. He was over £500,000 down after Barcelona lost the El Clasico earlier this season, and he's more than £2million in the red from his UFC fight bets in 2022.

So it's not looking good for Argentina today (December 18) as he's laid a $1m (£823k) bet on them, which would return $2.75m (£2.26m). He decided to go against friend Roshtein who backed France in the final when they were streaming together this week.

Drizzy has picked winners in the past, but his less than average record isn't filling fans with hope that Messi can finally lift the World Cup trophy to cap off his legendary career.

One person quickly pointed out: "Drake curse. It’s over for Argentina." Another warned: "Drake bets Argentina will win the World Cup... The Drake curse about to claim another victim."

A third joked: "Drake just said he’s supporting Argentina?? Well, that’s it for them." And a fourth bemoaned: "Drake backing Argentina to win? Yep, France have won."

"Drake killing all hopes of Messi winning a World Cup," added a fifth, but a sixth wrote: "So Drake also made a bet on the Golden State Warriors to win the NBA Championship, and they won. It’s not over yet boys, Messi’s gonna break his curse."

Drake lost over $2m (£1.7m) betting on former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya to defend his title against Alex Pereira last month, so he's heading into the World Cup final on losing form.
