The Anaheim Ducks lost 2-0 to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, and they head to Canada Life Centre as a huge road underdog in the NHL odds against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday.

Winnipeg hasn’t turned on the jets and alternated wins and losses the past six, so facing Anaheim with the Ducks in an unfavorable schedule spot is a ripe opportunity for the Jets to rebound from their 4-2 home loss to Nashville on Wednesday.

After all, this will be the third road game in four nights for the Ducks, and Anaheim has also lost four straight and been outscored by 16 goals during the skid.

Between shipping out veterans ahead of the trade deadline and dealing with several injuries, the Anaheim Ducks depth chart lacks talent and experience, especially relative to the Winnipeg Jets.

Making matters worse, Anaheim starter John Gibson is having the worst season of his career and has surrendered three or more goals in six of his past seven appearances, entering tonight with a .853 SV% and 4.92 GAA.

The Jets have a deep lineup of NHL veterans jumping the boards, and No. 1 center Mark Scheifle (illness) is expected to return to action Friday. I particularly value that their defense corps is fully healthy because Winnipeg has allowed the second-fewest goals per game (2.4) and the fewest at five-on-five per 60 minutes.

Of course, the Jets also have plenty on the line with the playoff seeding in the competitive Western Conference and Central Division both up for grabs. Additionally, the Sports Interaction puck line is telling, with Winnipeg trading at -2.5 (+115). The Jets have also already moved from -375 to -450 on the moneyline as of Friday morning.

I’m anticipating this game playing out as expected, with Winnipeg turning in a tidy showing and limiting Anaheim. Taking both the Jets to win and Under 6.5 goals is priced at +110 and presents a positive expected value of 5%, so make sure to take advantage of the best number available.

In addition to my best bet, I’m targeting Nikolaj Ehlers because of his recent scoring slide. The six-time 20-goal scorer has only found the back three times through the past 21 games despite registering 49 shots, 4.86 expected goals and 12 individual high-danger scoring chances.

Ehlers' 6.1 shooting percentage during the 21-game stretch is well below the 11.9 mark he posted through the first 44 games of the season and his 11.6 S% over the prior three years. Additionally, Ehlers could see an uptick in power-play minutes on Friday. While he skates with the No. 2 PP unit, the Ducks average the most shorthanded ice time per game, and the 28-year-old winger is still looking for his first power-play goal after scoring 13 times with the man advantage over the past three years.

Ducks vs Jets moneyline and Over/Under analysis

As noted, there has already been movement to the Winnipeg moneyline, and I don’t anticipate many Anaheim backers rushing to the window. It’s a horrible schedule spot for the Ducks, and the Jets can still earn home-ice advantage through the first three rounds of the postseason with a surge down the stretch.
