Hurricanes vs Jets Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The Hurricanes descend on Winnipeg to face a Jets squad trotting out their backup goaltender Laurent Brossoit. Carolina's high-octane attack is the focus of our betting picks and Andrei Svechnikov stands a great shot at finally breaking through.

It’s a tape-measuring matchup at Canada Life Centre with the Winnipeg Jets hosting the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. Winnipeg snapped a three-game losing streak last time out with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, but the Carolina Hurricanes storm into the ‘Peg as a Herculean opponent.

The Hurricanes rank No. 1 in shot attempts per 60 minutes in the NHL, and Jets interim head coach Scott Arniel is opting to start backup goalie Laurent Brossoit on Monday.

Bold move, Mr. Arniel. Brossoit is going to see some rubber. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Winnipeg is a home underdog in the latest NHL odds.

Goaltending is a topic of interest for the Hurricanes, too. Carolina is sending out veteran Antti Raanta and his confidence-crippling .854 save percentage and 3.47 GAA to face the Jets.

Are we going to see goals in bunches, or can one of these goalies shut the door? Read on for our Hurricanes vs. Jets NHL picks for Monday, December 4.

Hurricanes vs Jets predictions

There’s a short edge in my moneyline numbers and the available SIA price, and I’m further encouraged that the Winnipeg Jets are expected to start backup netminder Laurent Brossoit. There’s a sizable gap in the numbers between Brossoit and No. 1 tendy Connor Hellebuyck.

I also value the Carolina Hurricanes pacing the NHL in Corsi For percentage while allowing the fewest expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5. The Hurricanes push opponents with a relentless attack, and there’s also positive regression ahead given Carolina’s 24th-ranked .987 PDO.

In particular, star forwards Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov have combined for a 7.5 five-on-five shooting percentage this year after posting a 13.5 mark in 2022-23.

Additionally, most won’t think much of the Jets being without Vladislav Namestnikov (lower body), but he’s a glue guy who drives possession and can play in all situations. I give the ‘Canes an even larger edge in depth with Namestnikov out.

Finally, I’m anticipating a bounce-back performance from Carolina netminder Antti Raanta. He posted a .911 save percentage and 2.34 GAA through 55 games with the Hurricanes over the past two seasons, so I’m viewing his early-season struggles as a blip on the radar. He has 240 starts on his resume, after all.

My best bet: Hurricanes moneyline (-139 at SIA)

Hurricanes vs Jets same-game parlay

Hurricanes moneyline

Hurricanes team total Over 2.5

Andrei Svechnikov anytime goal

I have the Hurricanes aggressively projected to score 3.72 goals tonight, and the Svechnikov nod is a correlated third leg to the parlay.

As noted, the Carolina winger is eyeing statistical correction. He’s only found the back of the net once all season and his 3.0 shooting percentage is a far cry from his 11.37 mark across 197 games the prior three years.

Additionally, there’s also been an uptick in shot attempts, with Svechnikov attempting 21.7 per 60 minutes this season compared to 20.2 during the noted three-year stretch.

The goals are coming for Svech.

Hurricanes vs Jets moneyline and Over/Under analysis

Hellebuyck not starting had more of an impact on the moneyline than the total in this game, and there’s been a steady move to the Carolina side since. While I expect that to remain the case leading up to puck drop, I don’t anticipate notable line movement.

The total has flashed a few times at 6.5 at multiple sportsbooks, but it hasn’t lasted. Instead, a heftier vig continues to be attached to the Over 6.

The total has gone Under in five of Carolina’s last seven road games, and the Under has hit in each of Winnipeg’s past five games. Find more NHL betting trends for Hurricanes vs. Jets.
