Duncan Ferguson can clean up Rangers mess as Hotline makes bold prediction over return of two Ibrox heroes

Hurricane Duncan has hit the Highlands and it will be fascinating to see if he can help Inverness Caledonian Thistle storm their way to the Scottish Premiership.

But a couple of Hotliners reckon Big Dunc has his eyes on Ibrox while trying to turn around the fortunes of ICT. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: "A Rangers legend returns to the dugout of Scottish football. Big Duncan Ferguson as Inverness Caledonian Thistle's new manager is a brave appointment by the board and I take my hat off to them, knowing the history between big Dunc and the Scottish football hierarchy. Or is he just using Caley Thistle as a stepping stone to test the waters, then the bigger picture is to be Rangers manager one day?" Neil Renton, Leith, added: "Big Duncan Ferguson going to Caley Thistle is a great move for the maverick but I don’t think he’ll be there for too long. He’ll win two games and end up getting the Rangers job."

Rangers fans continue to be unhappy with the man currently holding the position. Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach,Hotline callers George McLeish and Jimmy Mac, both Gers men, summed up Michael Beale's time in charge. George says it's one of Rangers worst teams he's seen in 65 years, Jimmy comments about Beale's nine signings while letting better players go. I agree, especially Alex Lowry, a player I liked, on loan at Hearts who was superb in the cup tie against Killie. Beale is solely responsible for this £14million mess up."

Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: "I commented on Hotline early doors that Michael Beale let players go too soon while recruiting new signings. Oh, how we could have done with Alex Lowry on Sunday against Motherwell. That must have been the worst performance of a Rangers team I personally have watched over 70 years. Sadly no passion in this team which hurts most. Beale needs to get this right soon or he is off. His best signing of Butland is keeping him safe for now. Rangers in my day played with passion and commitment and I am not seeing that today. I saw it in the Kilmarnock-Hearts quarter final. Passion, commitment, fight and Alex Lowry, who we let go."

George Wilson, West Sussex, took issue with claims that Celtic have dominated for the last two decades, saying: "Comic book stuff from the Celtic camp again as Steve McSherry says Celtic can come good and make a mark in The Europa League. This is a team who has barely won a game in Europe in the last 20 years and is likely to finish bottom of their Champions League group and fail to even qualify for the Europa League.

"And James Logan says Celtic have dominated Scottish football for 20 years not 10. Rangers won the league in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as three Scottish Cups and five League Cups and played in a European final within that same period, so his claim is completely inaccurate as well as being utter nonsense."

But Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: "It’s hilarious listening to all the Rangers fans going into meltdown. It wasn’t long ago all their signings and their manager were going to end Celtic's two decades of dominance in Scottish football now their manager is clueless and their players are donkeys!"

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: "To the Hotliners who said Celtic losing to Feyenoord was embarrassing - no way. Yeah, we didn't play well and having two players sent off was the only embarrassing thing. We celebrated on Saturday as we won and are still top of the league. If positions were changed, I'm sure Rangers would have been doing the same."

Finally, Hibs fan Kevin Lord, Drylaw, ends on a positive note, emailing: "I'm not sure Hibs will win anything this year, but Nick Montgomery's philosophy of 'if you're good enough you're old enough' will reap massive rewards. If half the other managers ditch the fear factor and follow suit, Scottish football will kick on in huge strides."
