EA Sports College Football 24 release date and cover athlete predictions

When is the release date of EA Sports College Football 24? Ever since EA Sports decided to discontinue its special college football video game series nearly a decade ago, fans have been yearning for that to change. After long last, EA Sports decided in February 2021 that it would return with its storied college football video game, but when exactly has been hovering over the heads of fans for over two years.

The biggest hurdle for the EA Sports College Football 24 team has been being able to secure the name and image rights along with likeness of the several college players they plan on including in the game. With EA Sports aiming on elevating the authenticity of their college football game to new heights, having the names of actual players is really important to achieve just that.

Although the new game is still leagues away from being ready, EA Sports did announce a generic time frame for when fans can expect the inaugural edition to release. And should that be on the forefront of your mind, you’ve come just to the right place. Down below, we detail when College Football 24 will launch along with some of our expert predictions on who we think will land on the cover photo.

EA Sports College Football 24 release date

Per ESPN, College Football 24 is expected to launch come the Summer of 2024. At this time of writing, EA Sports has yet to provide an actual release date for their new college football game, and because of its ongoing process to secure player name and image likeness, has given itself plenty of extra time to deliver the game they’re after.

Anyone who might have seen a release date set for July 2023, that was purely conjecture. Daryl Holt, EA Sports’ vice president and general manager, confirmed that the Summer of 2024 is the targeted time frame for the arrival of the new college football game, and that has yet to change.

EA Sports College Football 24 cover athlete predictions

NCAA Football 14 was a long, long time ago. Because of that, there’s a lot of different standout college stars that EA Sports could roll with for College Football 24. Over the last two decades, EA has gone with a lot of notable players to be on the cover of their college football games. From Carson Palmer for NCAA Football 04, to Reggie Bush for NCAA Football 07, to Tim Tebow for NCAA Football 11, the list of college legends EA Sports has featured on their covers is extensive.

But based on who was on the previous covers as well as overall collegiate career success, these two college football stars we feel stand the best odds of making it on the cover of College Football 24:

1. Cam Newton (QB) – Auburn

Believe it or not, EA Sports has never had an Auburn alum on their cover before, and why not change that by having arguably the biggest Auburn college football star in the school’s history grace the new cover, in former quarterback, Cam Newton. From winning the Heisman Trophy in 2010 to leading Auburn to a National Championship Title in 2009, Newton was downright special in college, and would be perfect to have on the cover of College Football 24.

2. Derrick Henry (HB) – Alabama

Should EA Sports opt to go for a different player that’s not a quarterback, Derrick Henry is a college football icon that would also be great to have on the cover photo for College Football 24. Just like Newton, Henry also won the Heisman Award, only in 2015, and helped Alabama win its third National Championship Title in five years that same year. The last time an Alabama player was featured on a cover was that of Mark Ingram, who appeared on NCAA Football 12. And should EA Sports opt to go for an Alabama alum, Henry would be a very fitting candidate to have.

In all fairness, EA Sports College Football 24 could go a lot of different directions with their new cover athlete and there’s no way of knowing what they might opt to do at this time. Whether there will be two college football stars on the cover or maybe someone who is much younger like Bryce Young, EA Sports has a lot of leeway seeing it’s been so long since NCAA Football 14 came out.
