Flat racing betting tips: Big odds for Lincoln Handicap, Mile Stakes and Spring Mile Handicap as Doncaster hosts return to turf

Flat racing is back on the turf this weekend and Doncaster kicks things off in spectacular fashion with some Class 1 and 2 handicaps on Saturday.

The all-weather continues throughout but the turf racing hasn't been seen for a few months and the going is likely to be good or good to soft with the dry weather throughout the country.

Flat racing is back with a flurry of top-class races and horses that have seen some Group 1 action too.

Frankie Dettori will be in Meydan on Saturday for the Dubai World Cup along with Tom Marquand and William Buick who have huge rides for the £5.3m prize money for the winner.

Mondammej Each-Way at 10/1

There's a lot to like about this Antony Brittain-trained gelding.

Pretty consistent in the all-weather and was often placing this season as well as rattling off two quick wins in the Autumn.

He's been pretty close since to adding to those wins, coming second at Newcastle in January and Lingfield (in a Class 1) by a neck to One Night Stand.

Cam Hardie will ride once more and clearly knows this horse well.

He also offers the most value going into this race as the main outsider, with Garrus, Diligent Harry and Bielsa leading the betting.

Hasn't won over this distance since November 2020 but holds solid place claims if relishing the return to good ground and turf.

Star Shield at 13/2

This is one of the most open Class 2's of the day with the favourite still out to 3/1.

Star Shield catches the eye more than most in this field for two main reasons.

Ridden by Jason Watson, the 7-year-old has won over this course previously which is something the rest of the field haven't achieved yet in the early stages of their careers.

But it also means there are no question marks about the David O'Meara-trained horse liking the style of track that Doncaster is, a left-handed galloping course.

Another reason to potentially back this horse is the form over the distance and only goes up 4lb since the last run on turf.

He might also prefer the slight cut in the ground with the going still being called good-to-soft.

Chindit at 8/11

The Richard Hannon-trained horse Chindit is the odds-on favourite for this Class 1 event and looks to be the pick of a four-runner field.

Rossa Ryan is booked to ride and he's been having a great run of things, with a 36% win rate in the last 14 days.

The jockey has won five of his 14 rides in that time and certainly makes it easier to back this favourite.

He like many others today, who don't take to the all-weather, hasn't run since October and came third last time out in a Group 2 handicap at Newmarket over 7f.

This should be an ideal run for the colt, who stormed up the ratings when rattling off a hattrick in 2020, including on debut.

Since then he's come up against some top opposition in top-grade races and should find this field easier to beat.

Ametist at 16/1

The Cheveley Park Stud colours have been in form of late and were dominant at Cheltenham Festival to win the Gold Cup, Ryanair Chase and Ballymore Novices' Hurdle.

Ryan is also set to ride for the William Haggas-trained horse who is lightly raced.

He won a Class 2 back in June last year by 3/4 of a length to No Nonsense at Newmarket over seven furlongs and is only 4lb up from that win having since finished back in the field.

His latest run over 1m1f in September was a big step back in the right direction placing third in a 26-runner field.

Some horses prefer a run to settle back into things after a long break but Ametist has also won either side of a 314 day break before and so holds great value in this big-runner field at great odds of 16/1.
