Florida football: Nick Saban takes a shot at Anthony Richardson

Florida football’s Anthony Richardson has been flying up draft boards ever since the season ended, and for good reason. He’s a freak athlete, broke multiple records at the NFL Combine, and may be the most athletic QB of all time.

Not everybody likes that though, including a certain SEC coach who’s seeing his QB lose draft stock to Richardson.

Nick Saban was talking on “Know Mercy with Stephen A. Smith”, and had some criticisms of what is happening around Richardson.

“We’ve all seen the 6’4”-225 pound guy that can throw it like a bazooka, but he can’t make the choices and decisions, he can’t distribute the ball, he can’t throw it accurately, so who’s the better bet?”

Alright Nick, let’s go.

You want a safe bet on a guy who can make an impact in the NFL? How’s breaking combine records in your first two events? How’s the 4th fastest 40-time of QBs of all time? How’s the best broad jump and best vertical of all time?

You want to question his arm? That’s fine. But to say that Richardson isn’t a safe bet to transform an offense is just wrong.

And speaking of safe bets, how safe is taking a guy who’s shorter than me and doesn’t have the size to take hits from NFL players? Yeah, he’s got one of the best arms in the class, but the NFL is a different beast than college.

Young won’t have receivers who are faster than everybody else and an O-line who’s bigger than everybody else in the pros. He won’t be able to see over the defensive line.

He won’t be at Bama anymore. Richardson already knows what it’s like to be your team’s only hope. Florida didn’t have many playmakers out wide, so what did he do? Break off big run after big run and post highlight after highlight.

“Can’t throw the ball accurately”.

I’ll admit that Richardson was inconsistent at times and didn’t make every throw. Guess what, he’s human. Even though his combine results may indicate some type of alien genetics.

He’ll be drafted by a team that thinks that they can develop his throwing and turn him into an elite quarterback.

Don’t feel threatened that your little 5-star QB may not be the top pick in the draft Nick. Anthony Richardson will be well worth they hype.
