Former Man City star Nedum Onuoha makes James Trafford prediction after England heroics

Former defender Nedum Onuoha believes Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford has announced himself to the rest of the Premier League after his displays at the European Under-21 Championship for England.

Trafford kept six clean sheets in as many games to help the young Three Lions win the trophy, featuring an heroic double save to keep out a 99th-minute Spain penalty in Saturday's final. The contest looked set to go to extra-time, after Spain captain Abel Ruiz was handed the chance to make it 1-1 deep into stoppage time.

However, Trafford, who is closing in on a move to Premier League newcomers Burnley, produced two brilliant saves to ensure that Curtis Jones' first half goal clinched the trophy for England. It meant that the former Bolton Wanderers loanee completed the tournament without conceding a single goal.

His heroics at the end of the final, unsurprisingly, earned widespread plaudits and attention, meaning there is currently plenty of focus on him ahead of his impending move to Turf Moor. And for former City ace Onuoha, the goalkeeper has the potential to thrive in the Clarets' colours.

"It won't be a surprise to those who have followed his progress and knew he was a big, big prospect," Onuoha told the Football Daily podcast. "But the fact he was able to have that moment means he is now a name that all of a sudden people are familiar with.

"He said afterwards he felt ready to save that penalty and not many goalkeepers have the confidence or ability to be ready in such big moments.

"This feels like a really good move."

Trafford, who has been on City's books since 2015, made 52 appearances for Bolton last term, keeping a very respectable 26 clean sheets in the process. He helped them win the EFL Trophy and reach the end-of-season play-offs in League One.
