Former Premier League star Paddy Kenny lands first top boss job... but is forced to share role as co-manager

FORMER Sheffield United keeper Paddy Kenny has landed his first role as a head coach after being named co-manager of non-league side Goole.

The 45-year-old will take charge of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division outfit alongside Nathan Helliwell, with the club confirming on Tuesday they will have two bosses.

A statement on social media read: "Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who applied for the position of first team manager.

"Due to the high number of applicants, the club committee met over the weekend to evaluate each application and put together a shortlist for interviews.

"Following a long day of interviews throughout Monday, we are now in a position to announce Paddy Kenny and Nathan Helliwell as our new joint management team.

"Paddy and Nathan will be announcing their backroom team in due course.

"Please join us in welcoming Paddy and Nathan to the club."

Kenny quoted the post and added: "Really excited about this."

The ex-keeper spent eight years at Sheffield United including one in the Premier League.

He also spent one year in the top flight with QPR.

He was the keeper that conceded Sergio Aguero's last-gasp winner at the Etihad which handed Manchester City the Premier League title.

Kenny had spells elsewhere at Bury, Leeds, Bolton, Oldham, Ipswich, Rotherham, Northampton and Maltby Main, before his retirement in 2018.

He also earned seven caps for the Republic of Ireland national team.
