Frankie Dettori farewell: The horses superstar jockey rides at Ascot plus latest odds and tips

After more than 37 years Frankie Dettori will be riding in Britain for the final time at Ascot on Saturday before he heads overseas to base himself in California

Frankie Dettori will bring the curtain down on his extraordinary career in Britain after 37 years on Saturday.

The world’s most recognisable jockey will take his final mounts at his favourite track Ascot, which stages the £4.2 million Qipco British Champions Day, the richest single day's racing of the year.

Fittingly it is the track where Dettori pulled off his most remarkable feat when he rode the winners of all seven races on the card of the Festival of British Racing in 1996, forever remembered as 'Frankie's Magnificent Seven'.

It is not going to be a retirement party, which had been the case until he performed a u-turn, but it will be a celebration of one of the most successful careers in racing history.

The 52-year-old Dettori, who rode his first winner in 1987, has partnered over 120 Group 1 winners in Britain with his successes having earned close to £100 million in prize-money.

He will sign off with five top rides at the meeting where an appreciative crowd will hope to see the famous Frankie Dettori flying dismount at least one more time.

Frankie Dettori: will ride for the final time in Britain at Ascot on Qipco British Champions Day

1.15 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup

TRAWLERMAN (12-1)

Trawlerman carried the Italian to victory in the Ebor at York last year and had most of this summer off after racing in the Middle East in the winter. Had little to beat when winning his last two but must have each way claims having finished third 12 months ago.

TIP: Kyprios

1.50 Qipco British Champions Sprint

KINROSS (7-4)

Dettori has labelled Kinrross the horse he most enjoys riding and the pair should team up again to take this prize for the second year. They have won six times together and were unlucky when impeded at Longchamp last time. The inevitable soft ground is right up Kinross’s street at the 6f distance.

TIP: Kinross

2.25 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares

FREE WIND (4-1)

His last chance to go out with a winner for his biggest supporter John Gosden, and son Thady. They were outclassed in the Arc but Free Wind will be far more competitive back against her own sex. With winning form over the 1m4f trip as well as on soft ground, she could be the one to beat

Tip: Free Wind

3.05 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

CHALDEAN (14-1)

A late booking for Dettori after his intended mount Inspiral was not declared because of soft ground. Chaldean was the colt who started the Frankie farewell tour in brilliant fashion by taking the 2,000 Guineas back in May. He hasn’t built on that and has been given a freshen up. A first three finish might be the best he could hope for.

Tip: Paddington

3.45 Qipco Champion Stakes

KING OF STEEL (4-1)

A first time appearance for Dettori on the Amo Racing star whose partnership with Kevin Stott ended after King Of Steel finished fourth in the Irish Champion Stakes, The Derby runner-up is the best three-year-old in the field but could be found out again by his elders.
