Free Agent Predictions Retrospective, Part Two
FanGraphs' predictions about free agents' contracts matched the actual contracts awarded to them. Today, he will look at some of the mistakes he made and some good ones he did well on.
Bell finished higher on various lists of top free agents than on mine. Bell's statistics are similar to Brandon Drury's. Zach Eflin was mislabeled as a starter and got a 3-year, $40 million contract. Taylor Rogers was the second-best reliever coming onto the market this year behind Edwin Díaz. He was signed to a three-years, three million dollar contract by the Rays. He's a good reliever with good peripherals. The lesson here is to bet on good relievers even if they have a hiccup. It's not a job of a GM to predict how other people think.
