Free beer and a bet on offer for punters at rescheduled Magic Millions meeting

The gates will be thrown open on Thursday and ticket holders to Saturday's washed out Magic Millions day will get a free beer and a bet as the Gold Coast Turf Club look to salvage something from the wreckage which saw the $11m raceday aborted.

Unforecast rain wreaked havoc with the already heavily watered track on Saturday morning, meaning just two of the 10 races were run before stewards and jockeys deemed the track unsafe to race on.

While a huge majority of punters in general admission and corporate hospitality on Saturday stayed for the remainder of the day, they will be invited back for free on Thursday in an attempt to make the most of Thursday's new rescheduled race day.

Gold Coast Turf Club chairman Brett Cook confirmed anyone who shows up with a general admission ticket from Saturday will get a free beer along with a $10 betting voucher.

Melbourne Cup-winning owner Noel Greenhalgh will also have the famous trophy on display for punters following Gold Trip's victory last year.

Racing administrators had originally expected a $90m wagering record on the 10-race card, however that is now expected to be significantly lower on Thursday.

The reworked card will see the $2m Magic Millions 2YO Classic run as race 3 at 2:37pm with the 3YO Guineas scheduled to follow in order to accommodate TV obligations.
