From worst to first? UMBC women’s basketball is starting to believe amid best start in America East in 11 years
The women's basketball team is 3-1 in the America East. It's the best start since the 2011-12 team started with a 4-2 record. The team's next game is against Maine on Saturday at 1 p.m. Last year, the team went 2-8 through the nonconference portion of its schedule. This year's team has scored more points and conceded less points. Six of the 14 players are graduate students. They have qualified for one NCAA Tournament since 2007. Their last championship came in 2012. Coach Johnetta Hayes predicted the current team would be better than last year.
