Georgia National Championship odds (Are Bulldogs making College Football Playoff?)

Georgia’s 29-game winning streak, which started after losing to Alabama two years ago in the SEC Championship game, was snapped by the Crimson Tide in the same game two years later.

This loss particularly hurts the Bulldogs and the team’s quest for history, the first three-peat since the 1930’s, is now likely out of the question. Despite being ranked No. 1 in last week’s College Football Playoff rankings, Georgia is seen as a long shot to make the CFP this season.

Alabama was able to hold off Georgia’s late rally, 27-24, and win the SEC Championship, likely eliminating the team from the discussion.

UPDATE: Georgia was ranked No. 6 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, missing the CFP and ending its chance at winning a third straight National Championship.

Georgia is a one loss team without a conference title and a loss to another team jockeying for two spots, Alabama, in addition to Texas (who beat Alabama on its home turf but also has a loss) and undefeated Florida State (who is an undefeated ACC Champion but started its third string quarterback on Saturday).

If the Bulldogs get into the CFP, they’ll re-emerge as the favorite, but oddsmakers don’t see that as likely given the current climate.
