Giants vs. Reds prediction: MLB picks for Logan Webb, Elly De La Cruz matchup

If you want a solid midseason MLB futures bet, I’d look toward Logan Webb in the NL Cy Young markets (+1800, BetRivers).

The righty has quietly exceeded expectations for a surprisingly competitive Giants team.

Webb boasts an ERA in the low-3.00s, and I’ve been very impressed with his 25 percent strikeout rate this year — I thought he may have lost his fastball when that number dropped to 20 percent in 2022.

Webb will take his talents to Cincinnati on Monday, making the start against an ascending Reds team.

I see some regression coming for the Reds in the second half, which may have already started.

The Reds failed to plate a run in their first two games out of the All-Star break.

Meanwhile, the Giants are playing some solid ball, having won four of their past five games.

I expect them to continue this hot streak against Reds starting pitcher Brandon Williamson.

Williamson is the weak link in the Reds’ rotation, sporting a 5.21 ERA and a 5.67 expected ERA on the year.

His mediocre fastball sits in the low-90s, and his secondaries aren’t producing enough whiffs, so the rookie isn’t playing up to major-league hitting.

The Giants have the advantage in the early frames, but I’d also give them the advantage in the late frames.

Camilo Doval and the Rogers brothers lead an above-average Giants relief corps, while the Reds rank second-to-last in bullpen expected FIP since June 1.
