GM survey shows real value of veteran Golden State Warriors duo

Although Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are each entering the latter end of their careers, the skillsets of the veteran Golden State Warriors duo still hold an incredible amount of respect across the league.

That much has been proven in NBA.com’s recent General Manager survey, with both players, particularly Curry, prominent among 50 questions posed ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Stephen Curry remains the most dangerous offensive threat in the NBA, while Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green is still one of the league’s best defenders.

Despite entering Year 15 at 35-years-old, Curry remains one of the league’s best players. The GM survey had him voted as the best point-guard in the league, with Curry beating out Luka Doncic despite other rankings to the contrary this offseason. The two-time MVP was also voted as the league’s second-best shooting guard behind Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker.

Unsurprisingly, 90% of the vote went to Curry in regard to the NBA’s ‘best pure shooter’, while he was also voted as the best player in the league at moving without the ball. The four-time champion’s shooting excellence also has him picked as the player who forces opposition coaches to make the most adjustments.

Perhaps a little more surprisingly, the GM’s voted Curry as the player they’d most like to take a shot with the game on the line. While he has plenty of clutch moments throughout his decorated career, Curry has also gained an unfair reputation of the opposite among rival fans.

The nine-time All-Star was also voted as the second-best leader in the NBA behind LeBron James, while despite his age, Curry even received votes for the player GM’s would most like to start a franchise with today.

Although he’s rarely at the top of the betting market for Defensive Player of the Year, Green’s real value on that end was identified in the GM survey. They had him tied for the third-best defender in the league, sitting alongside Marcus Smart and behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday.

The 33-year-old was voted as the second-most versatile defender in the league after Antetokounmpo, while he was also voted as the equal fourth-best interior defender behind Jaren Jackson Jr., Rudy Gobert and Brook Lopez.

The GM survey was ultimately a lot more fairer to the duo than corresponding media pieces that answer similar questions. Curry and Green will look to lead the Warriors to a fifth championship over the last decade when the regular season tips off on October 24.
