Golden Gate: How to bet the mandatory-payout $45,306 Pick 6 carryover

Sunday is closing day of the Golden Gate Fields meet, which means the Northern California racetrack has scheduled the mandatory payout of a $45,306 carryover in the 20-cent Golden Pick 6.

The six-race sequence gets underway in Race 5 (post time 6:29 p.m. ET). Bettors looking for singles to build tickets around are advised to check out Race 6 and Race 7, a pair of contests with compelling contenders.

Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (five furlongs on Tapeta): #9 Hermelinda’s Fancy (7-2)

This maiden dash for two-year-olds looks like a perfect spot for Hermelinda’s Fancy to begin his career. He’s a son of Stanford (who sires 17% debut winners) conditioned by high-percentage trainer Jonathan Wong, a 24% winner at Golden Gate since Dec. 26 and a 24% winner with horses debuting in maiden special weights.

Hermelinda’s Fancy boasts an encouraging work tab capped off by half a mile from the Golden Gate starting gate in :48 2/5. Since 2021, Wong has compiled a stellar 14-4-5-2 record debuting juveniles during the first six months of the year at Golden Gate, which works out to a 29% win rate and a 79% in-the-money rate. Taking all of these factors together, Hermelinda’s Fancy is worth singling at a nice price in the Pick 6.

Race 7: Dream of Summer S. (five furlongs on turf): #6 Chancery Way (2-1)

Pure speedster Chancery Way has set the pace in all seven of her starts, winning four times and finishing second twice. That’s a positive since pacesetters have won 46% of five-furlong turf sprints at Golden Gate since Aug. 26, 2022.

Chancery Way ran strongly when making her turf debut in the Camilla Urso S. over this course and distance six weeks ago. After carving out fractions of :20.91 and :44.15, Chancery Way led by two lengths in midstretch, only to falter late and finish second by a head against Alice Marble. The latter filly has won four stakes at Santa Anita and boasts a runner-up effort in the Monrovia (G2) for good measure.

There aren’t any fillies as accomplished as Alice Marble in the Dream of Summer field, so the stage is set for Chancery Way to lead all the way under high-percentage jockey Evin Roman, a 26% winner on turf this year. We’ll single Chancery Way in the Pick 6.
