Good things come in three for progeny of Supreme Gem
Supreme Gem's three daughters have won races in the last eight days. John McDermott and his wife Christine are proud owners of Supreme Gem. Supreme gem died of colic shortly after they weaned off her last foal. Peter and Vicky Cowan were friends of McDermotter and bought Flying Sands from Christian Cullen for $60,000. Flying sands won 11 races and was a Listed winner. The other owner bought the other half of Flying Sand and they bought her outright. They syndicate Supreme Gems. The third daughter won a race in her tenth start. She is a thoroughbred. It is the 2023 harness racing season.
Supreme Gem's mare suffered a broken pastern two or three days after a race and she was already in foal to Bettor's Delight. Ruby's A Delights won the sixth race of her career on New Year's Day at Rangiora.
Ruby's A Delight won at Rangiora. Three days later Sophie won her maiden at the Roxburgh meeting for new trainer Tyler Dewe. Dewer will keep Ruby for the broodmare band. The way she accounted for her opposition winning by three lengths suggests it won't be the last time we see of her in the winner’s circle.
Topaz won by a length at yesterday's Banks Peninsula meeting. Topaz was having her first start in three months under the care of new trainers Geoff and James Dunn. She was formerly under trainer McDermott's care. He's Watching three-year-old filly by the name of I Spy Diamonds is the last of Supreme Gem progeny. The horse was delayed by hairline fracture of pelvis. It had to have a good spell in the paddock. The trainer had raced her at Rangiora on the Friday before. They went a 1:53 mile rate. This was a trainer error. There was no need to race her.
Flyaway had a great run yesterday but hit a wheel just short of the post and didn't get a dividend. Jordie will trial next week. Benny Hill bought a colt from Creatine. He also bred three mares this year. They are Flyover, Curve and Duchess. Duchess is in foal to What The Hill. Camilla is going to be at the trials in the next 6 weeks.
