Guardians designate veteran lefty for assignment for third time this season

MINNEAPOLIS — Daniel Norris has been designated for assignment by the Guardians for the third time this season.

The Guardians announced the move Tuesday, one day after the veteran lefty allowed four runs including a pair of home runs in two innings of relief work during a 10-6 loss to Minnesota on Monday.

Norris, 30, posted a 5.68 ERA in 12 2/3 innings with 11 strikeouts and a 1.737 WHIP over seven appearances for Cleveland. The Guardians recalled right-hander Hunter Gaddis from Triple-A Columbus to take Norris’ place on the active roster.

On Monday morning the Guards announced that Norris was being added to the 26-man roster in place of the released Noah Syndergaard for his third tour with the team this season. He appeared in games June 17-20 and July 24-Aug. 17. Norris was released earlier this month and elected free agency, but re-signed with Cleveland two days later.
