Gunite seizes victory in Grade II Amsterdam Stakes
Gunite and jockey Tyler Gaffalione won the Grade II Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga on Sunday. It was the third graded stakes victory in two days for trainer Steve Asmussen. He is the most successful trainer in thoroughbred racing with 9,800 career victories. Gunite will next race in Sar at $500,000, Grade I H. Allen Jerkens at seven furlongs on August 27.
Truancy won the first race on the card. Unique Unions won a $95,000 sprint for horses that have not won two races. Gunite won Grade II Amsterdam Stakes.
Gunite won the Amsterdam Stakes. Guahira ran claim free despite last starting on January 7 at Oaklawn Park for a $50,000 claiming price. Trade Secret, Tweaqued, Ice Wine Stable and trainer Phil Antonacci were claimed. Let's be Clear, who ran fifth, will next race for Jesse Englehart and Jeremiah Englheart. Dawnland, the sixth place finished, was claimed by David A. Benson, LLC and Tom Amoss.
