Hartford heralds Honsinger, Brunner in title defenses at US Cyclocross National Championships
The USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships are taking place in Hartford, Connecticut. The junior, U17, and elite winners will be crowned on Sunday, December 11. Stephen Hyde and Katie Compton no longer command the podiums. Clara Honsinger is the new queen of ‘cross for the US. In 2020 Compton tested positive for an anabolic steroid and was banned for four years.
Eric Brunner is aiming to win the elite cyclocross national title in Hartford. Curtis White is looking to improve on his second place finish at the Pan-American CX Championship. Haidet, Scott McGill, Brannan Fix, and Scott Funston are also in the field. Caleb Swartz is competing for ENVE Composites. The event starts on Sunday at 10 am local time. It will be held at Hartford International Cyclocrosse Center. There will also be a cycling festival in New England.
Scott Funston, 22, is defending his U23 men's title. Jack Spranger won the Pan-American Championship. Andrew A.J. August is aiming to defend his junior men 17-18 title he won at Koppenbergcross. He will have to hold off Magnus White and David Thompson.
Clara Honsinger is the reigning champion at US Cyclocross National Championships. She is competing with EF Education-TIBCO-SVB team. Raylyn Nuss is a two-time Pan-American champion for elite women. Austin Killips, Hannah Arensman, and Caitlin Bernstein are also competing. for the women's field. They are competing at the Connecticut Cyclo-cross National Championship.

Maddie Munro, a member of the Colorado Mesa University cycling team, is fresh off a team mountain bike camp in Arizona. Katie Clouse, the reigning U23 national champion, was second in the CX Championships behind Munra.
Hartford hosts US Cyclocross National Championships. The course is 2.2 miles long and features a river levy, a forest section and a power section. Several days of rain have soaked the soil early in the week. Fluctuating temperatures will make a mess of deep ruts and snow showers are in forecast for late Sunday.
USA Cycling and FloBikes are providing live streaming of the US Cyclocross National Championships on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, Dec. 11. A subscription costs $150 for a full year. Access to Riverside Park for in-person viewing requires a wristband for 11 years and older.
