Aaron Judge has 55 home runs on the season. He's almost certain to break the Yankees' single-season record of 61 set by Roger Maris. However, he's unlikely to do so and break Barry Bonds' 73-home run record. In 2001 Ichiro Suzuki won the Rookie of the Year award and in 2003 Hideki Matsui came in second. The votes received by Matsuida were recorded and he will be known as the 2003 runner-up. In the same way, fans of Royals in the early 2000s argued whether Angel Berroa deserved to get the award.
MLB announced a set of three new rules that will be implemented next season. Sports writers are supposed to make educated guesses. It's possible that some sports pundits are wrong about the Chiefs winning the AFC West this year. It is possible to be wrong and still make a good argument. There is no penalty for being wrong. Sportswriters feel the need to crow about getting it right. The nature of educated predictions and the wide range of outcomes in sports makes it difficult to predict the outcome.
