Horse racing analysis: Timeform reaction to Arc weekend winners including Alpinista and Kyprios

Alpinista won the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe by half a length. The field included the winners of the last year's race, the Irish Champion Stakes, Irish Derby, Grand Prix of Paris, Yorkshire Oaks and a top Japanese horse. Alpinista is set to be retired at the end of this season. She is eligible for a huge bonus on top of her prize money. Vadeni became the first three-year-old since Enable in 2017 to hit the 130-barrier on Timeform ratings in this race. He is the only colt of his age to do so.

Kyprios won the Prix du Cadran by a record-equalling margin for a Group One. It was Kyprio's sixth win from as many starts this season. Alpinista won at Arc weekend. The same races are likely to be on the agenda again in 2023.

Kyprios is not going to Ascot. Erevann won the Prix Daniel Wildenstein and Sea La Rosa won Prix de Royallieu. Kinross won Sunday's Prix la Foret and is now a contender for the Champions Sprint. The Platinum Queen became the first two-year-old to win Prix l'Abbaye since 1978.   The horse won by a neck. She is a favourite for Breeders' Cup. It is possible that Kincross could also go to the race. He is of similar ability to last year's winner Space Blues. His connections favour a tilt at that contest next.

Belbek won the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere for Andre Fabre and Blue Rose Cen won Prix Marcel Boussac for Christopher Head. Place du Carousel won in the Grand Prix de l’Opera. The winner of that contest, Nashwa, was beaten by three quarters of a length. Above The Curve came third. The race was on soft ground. It was restricted to juveniles. BlueRose Cens won by five lengths.

Laurel won the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. John and Thady Gosden's train Nashwa also had to settle for minor honours. Fonteyn finished fourth behind Nashva in the Nassau Stake.  Lauren has only two wins in novice events. She is open to further improvement and looks sure to win good races as a four-year-old.
