Horse racing odds and predictions: Northumberland Plate 2022
The Northumberland Plate is the biggest race of the year at Newcastle. It takes place over an extended two-mile trip and always attracts a huge crowd. Last season's Long Distance Cup winner Trueshan is headed this year's field. Hugo Palmer won the race in 2020 with Caravan Of Hope. Rajinsky will be represented this time by Alan King.
Valley Forge has the fourth-lowest weight in the field. Andrew Balding's horse won the Melrose Handicap at York last August. Trueshan has won this race twice in last two years. He has to concede 27 pounds to Valley Forge. Trueshans horse was unable to win the Northumberland Plate in 2021 off 9st 13lb.
Island Brave is back to winning form after disappointing campaign in the UAE. Apprentice Benoit De La Sayette can claim 5lb in this race. He came fourth in Northumberland Plate last year. The 2021 Old Borough Cup winner appeared at Royal Ascot in Copper Horse Stakes this month.
