It just hasn’t happened this season for Arrest after what looked such a promising start when easily winning the Chester Vase. That was on soft ground and reverting to that surface will make a difference. The Gosden’s three-year-old will get the job done in receipt of weight from Kamari.

It is a fantastic sight watching all of these grey horses thunder down the July course, but ultimately it’s all about picking the winner. Divine Libra handles conditions so it doesn’t matter how much rainfall there is, this horse will cope. It was a good run at the track last time behind an improver in Sharp Power.

Libra Tiger is another who will handle conditions and we cannot underestimate that. Trained by Ed Walker, he was a good winner at Sandown last time over 5f and ran really well at this track over 6f in July. The handicapper put him up 5lbs for that Sandown win but it might not be enough to stop him.

Adrian Nicholls is following the same route as his dad Dandy used to do in being a ‘sprinters specialist’ in the training ranks. Thornaby Pearl has won twice at this specialists’ track and likes to race on the front end. He ticks a lot of the right boxes in this contest.

It’s interesting that Nigel Tinkler sends this proven slow-ground performer south for this contest. It was a decent run at Goodwood on heavy ground last time and taking 7lbs off with the young claimer Alex Jary is a good move. With doubts about some of these, Isla Kai is a very good each-way proposition.

This six-year-old look like he didn’t get home at Doncaster last time when Racing over 7f. Brazen Bolt will be much happier over this trip, has a style of racing that suits this track and gets the nod, especially at an each-way price.

I really like Chindit. He showed himself to be a bit of a character when trying to bite Modern Games when running in the Lockinge Stakes at this venue in May. He finished sixth in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot but this Group Two contest is made for him. This looks a really good race for him to get back into the winner’s enclosure.
