I’m not sure the ground will suit Arrest but I think Jack Darcy will run well. He bounced back to form at Goodwood last time out, just beaten 4l in the end by Hamish. I thought that was much more like it from Jack Darcy. He likes the track and I think he’ll run well and is an each-way bet as long as all eight run.

I’ve come down on Music Society. He was 5th in the Stewards’ Sprint at Goodwood last time out and missed the break that day and started slowly which he doesn’t normally do. His form this season has been pretty solid and he handles good-to-soft ground which I think we’re likely to get. I’d normally be concerned about the high draw but that’s where the pace seems to be coming from. I’d be disappointed if he’s not in the top half-a-dozen and that gives you a great each-way chance with Paddy paying five places.

Whenthedealinsdone has been disappointing in his last few runs and I find it hard to forgive him. This is a difficult race and I’d play small stakes but Libra Tiger is interesting. He won well at Sandown on Soft ground two starts ago and was beaten on Thursday in the Racing League at Windsor but that race didn’t suit him at all. I’ve put a line through that run. He’s the one for me if an each-way price.

The ground is a slight question mark here. It’s good but liable to get softer. I was with Cooperation when he ran well at Haydock in June. He ran well in the Steward’s Cup at Goodwood too but is a slightly tricky character and wants a good pace which I think he’ll get with the lowish draw. He should be well suited by soft ground and is a course and distance winner too.

Lyndon B will hit the frame and I’m pretty confident, actually, about that. He’s an honest-enough type and is pretty consistent. He’s dropped 3lbs over his last three runs since he was a very good second here at the end of last season. This lot are going to go a strong pace and that’s exactly what he wants. I’m not sure he’ll win, but I think he’s definitely value for a place.

I am keen on Bay Breeze for Tim Easterby who’s got a few running in both the races at Ripon. Hyperfocus is capable of bouncing out and making all but has been disappointing of late and that would be a shock. Easterby’s got a very good record here when racing on ground softer than good. Bay Breeze won last time out with ease in the ground and he’s very consistent when he gets conditions in his favour. He’s progressed all the way through and is rated 86 now and has plenty in his favour and he’s never been out of the top three in these conditions.

I don’t fancy Chindit in this one. He was eighth of nine last year on ground he likes which he isn’t going to get here and he’s not really a 7f horse. Jumby would have appealed on good ground but he starts slowly. I ended up coming down on Misty Grey who performs on bad ground. This will suit and he wants to race handily. Pogo will probably set the pace with Misty Grey and Chindit just in behind.  My selection makes plenty of each-way appeal at a big price.
