Houston mayor collects on Astros World Series wager

"The City of Houston and baseball fans will never get tired of celebrating the Houston Astros and the 2022 World Series Championship," Turner said in a statement. "I am grateful to Mayor Kenney for following through on our friendly wager and especially for donating to a Houston-based organization with a mission to end childhood hunger."

Turner is becoming a bit of a gambler considering Houston's success in recent years. He made a bet with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms before the 2021 World Series, though he came out on the losing end as the Braves won the Fall Classic in six games. Turner sent Bottoms a number of Houston-based items after the World Series, including beer from Saint Arnold's Brewing Company and tamales from The Original Irma's restaurant.

Perhaps Turner would be wise to make more bets with mayors across the country in 2023. The Astros enter the year as World Series favorites once again as they look to become baseball's first back-to-back champion of the 21st century.
