Michigan State’s losing streak has now stretched to six games. Saturday represents one of the Spartans’ best chances to break it, in its last game at Spartan Stadium this year.

Nebraska will have something to say about that. The Cornhuskers have a three-game win streak after starting the season 0-2 behind a defense that’s now ranked among the top 15 in the country.

That means whoever lines up at quarterback for Michigan State could have a difficult day. The Spartans replaced Katin Houser with Sam Leavitt last Saturday at Minnesota and have been tight-lipped since about who is the Spartans’ starting quarterback.

Five must-reads before kickoff:

* How long has it been since Michigan State had its home finale on Nov. 4 or earlier? 103 years. The Spartans moving their Thanksgiving weekend game against Penn State to Ford Field means this will be the earliest Michigan State home finale since Oct. 27, 1900 (the Spartans lost 23-0 to Alma that day).

* With Nebraska, Ohio State and Penn State still on the schedule, Michigan State can still play a role in which teams make it to Indianapolis for the Big Ten championship game. But Harlon Barnett isn’t a fan of his team being a spoiler: “Saying I’m a spoiler means I’m a scrub and I ain’t a scrub.”

* Michigan State’s quarterback questions aren’t going away. After Sam Leavitt came in in relief for the second straight game against Minnesota, Michigan State says the position is still an open competition in November.

* Michigan State’s seniors will say goodbye on Saturday. The class of 2019 has had an eventful journey: starting for Mark Dantonio, playing through COVID, then the Spartans’ Peach Bowl run in 2021 and Mel Tucker’s dismissal this year.

* Michigan State’s run defense and some turnover issues on both sides of the ball are among Matt Wenzel’s five things to watch this week.
