How to watch Reds at Diamondbacks (8/24/23): time, details, odds, FREE live stream

Two National League playoff contenders just a half-game apart will meet Thursday evening in the first of a four-game series at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix.

Game time is 9:40 p.m. EDT inside the air-conditioned stadium, which has a retractable roof. It was built for nights like tonight, with the temperature expected to be hovering right around 100 degrees when the first pitch is thrown. FS1 will carry the game, which can be live-streamed on fubo TV (FREE trial) and DirecTV Stream.

The Cincinnati Reds (67-61, third in the NL Central) are a half-game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks (66-61, second in the NL West) for the final wild card spot in the National League, so this is a big series as the calendar get ready to change to September.

Cincinnati won Wednesday by 9-4 and 7-3 over the Angels, who found out that their all-world player Shohei Ohtani won’t pitch for the rest of the season because of the tear in his elbow ligament. Elly De La Cruz had a career-high six RBIs with a three-run homer and a three-run triple in the opener for Cincinnati. Matt McLain homered and drove in three runs, and Tyler Stephenson hit a two-run homer to lead the Reds to victory in the second game.

They have now won four straight on the road, improving their mark away from home this season to 36-27.

Spencer Steer has 29 doubles, two triples and 18 home runs while hitting .273 for the Reds. Matt McLain is 12-for-39 with two doubles and three home runs over the last 10 games.

Christian Walker leads the Diamondbacks with 28 home runs while slugging .528. Tommy Pham is 13-for-43 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBI over the past 10 games.

Tommy Pham extended his hitting streak to 13 games for the D-backs, who have won eight of their last 10 games. Not only are they trying to hold off the Reds, but they also are only a half-game ahead of the San Francisco Giants.

Christian Walker leads the Diamondbacks with 28 home runs while slugging .528. Pham is 13-for-43 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 10 RBI over the past 10 games.

Merrill Kelly (10-5, 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 134 strikeouts) will start for the Diamondbacks and Brandon Williamson (4-3, 4.36 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 76 strikeouts) will start for the Reds.
