Hull FC boss Tony Smith on bookies shortlist to become next Warrington head coach

Super League title sponsor Betred have given odds on current Hull FC boss Tony Smith becoming the next head coach at Warrington Wolves.

The Wire parted ways with Daryl Powell on Sunday evening, with the bookies coming up with their own shortlist this Monday afternoon. Smith, who signed a two-year deal at Hull, is priced at 16/1 with Betfred, having coached Warrington from 2009 until 2017.

Elsewhere, Justin Holbrook is the overwhelming favourite to get the job. The Australian coach started St Helens' recent Super League dominance back in 2017 and is a big reason why they've won four consecutive Grand Finals. Holbrook recently departed NRL club Gold Coast Titans and has been heavily linked with the role, priced at 11/8.

The second favourite is current Newcastle Knights head coach Adam O'Brien, who is priced at 4/1. His future at the Knights is under speculation, with Holbrook also linked in an ironic turn of events.

Warrington legend Lee Briers is listed on the shortlist as well as former Hull FC coaches Brett Hodgson and John Kear. Former Hull KR man Justin Morgan is named alongside England coach Shaun Wane and Huddersfield boss Ian Watson.

In the meantime, Warrington will be coached by Head of Youth Gary Chambers and existing assistant coach Richard Marshall. The club are on the lookout for a permanent appointment and face Hull FC at the MKM Stadium next month.
