Justin Holbrook made favourite for Warrington Wolves job as bookmakers list surprise candidates

Justin Holbrook has been named as the favourite to become the next Warrington Wolves head coach with the bookies. Holbrook, a former Super League-winning head coach with St Helens, has been linked with the post since his departure from NRL outfit Gold Coast Titans.

Super League's title partner, Betfred, has released their odds following Daryl Powell's departure and Holbrook has quickly emerged as the favourite, with his odds posted at 6/4. The second favourite is Newcastle Knights' current head coach Adam O'Brien, priced at 7/2. Coincidentally, his future has been the subject of speculation down under amid reports the Knights have held talks with Holbrook recently.

Former players Brett Hodgson and Lee Briers have been listed, as well as Michael Monaghan and Kevin Brown, though the latter is priced at 100/1. England coach Shaun Wane is priced at 10/1 while former Wire boss Tony Smith is at 16/1. The current Huddersfield Giants boss is listed at 33/1. You can find the full odds

For now, the club's head of youth, Gary Chambers, and existing assistant coach Richard Marshall have been placed in temporary charge of first-team decisions while a successor is identified. They take on Catalans Dragons this Friday before having a week off for the Challenge Cup Final. They then take on Leeds Rhinos.

With seven rounds of the season remaining the Wire are sixth, just two points clear of seventh-placed Salford.
