Hull football beats Old Colony in the Div. 8 State semifinals

Hull's senior running back John Gianibas ran the ball 21 times for 270 yards and found the end zone four times to lift the top-seeded Pirates to a 35-12 victory over Old Colony at Sandwich High. Hull will make its second straight trip to the Div. 8 Super Bowl after losing to Randolph 20-14 a year ago. The Pirates take on KIPP Academy in the state final at a date and time to be determined. Old colony's first appearance in a state semifinal in 25 years was against Hull. The Cougars won the Mayflower Athletic Conference and made their deepest run in playoffs since 1997.

Gianiabas had 171 of his 270 rushing yards in second half. He now has 18 rushing touchdowns and 21 overall for this season. Old Colonies had a late comeback. It was stopped on the first play of the next drive. The second play resulted in a Hull fumble. Logan made it 28-12 with 10:54 left to play. He made two PATs. They won the game. For the Cougars, it was their first loss in 10 games.

Hull stopped Old Colony on fourth down with a pass deflection by Dunham in the end zone. The Cougars drove down to the Hull 12 late in second quarter but the Pirates stopped them.
