Ilya Samsonov was not offered a qualifying offer by Washington Capitals. He signed a one-year contract with Toronto Maple Leafs. Samsonova is training with New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin. He is battling Matt Murray for a spot in the Toronto goal. The Russian finished with a career-low .896 save percentage last season. His team lost 7-3 to the Maple Leaf on April 14. Ottawa Senators traded him for MattMurray. They ate 25% of his $6.5 million salary. It was a good move. Toronto bought Murray with three draft picks and a third and seventh draft pick this season for future considerations.
