Indiana vs 1 Michigan: Preview, odds, and data-driven best bets

The Michigan Wolverines will open their Big 10 schedule with a home game against the Indiana Hoosiers on Tuesday night. Michigan brings a 4-4 record into the contest against their basketball rivals. Michigan enters the game as the #1 team in the country and the clear betting favorite across Michigan’s top sportsbooks.

With tons of new sign-up promotions available, it has never been a betting time to bet on college basketball. Check out exclusive new sign-up promos from industry leaders like DraftKings Sportsbook where all new members can instantly receive $150 in bonus bets plus a no-sweat SGP every day!

Michigan is favored at home in this game. When these two schools meet, emotions often run high. Still, while Indiana has the reputation as the better basketball school, it’s Michigan with more Final Four appearances and Big 10 titles this century. Sure, the Wolverines are a football juggernaut, but they also have a superior hoops program when compared to the once-mighty Hoosiers.

Michigan is slumping, having lost four of its last five. Part of the problem is the absence of head coach Juwan Howard, who is still recovering from heart surgery. Howard is making an appearance as an assistant on the bench of late.

On the hardwood, the Wolverines are being led by youth: sophomore guard Dug McDaniel is surprising most everyone with his play. He poured in 33 points in Michigan’s most recent loss to Oregon.

McDaniel needs help from one of his backcourt mates, however. Transfer guard Nimari Burnett, who is on his third college team, has shot the rock terribly so far in his first few games with Michigan after coming over from Alabama.

The strength of the Wolverines is the physical play led by senior forward Olivier Nkamhoua (16.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game). The inside out duo of McDaniel and Nkamhoua is the key to Michigan halting their current slide.

This is a team with enough talent to make the NCAA tournament, but they must have a good December and catapult themselves into the mix in conference play.

We can’t see the Hoosiers suddenly finding their long-range shooting touch in Ann Arbor, which is why we think Michigan will win. Take the over, generously listed at 145.5, and your $100 bet on this two-leg same-game parlay would win you $142.

  • Ten of the 15 games played by these two teams this season have gone OVER.
  • Michigan is 8-3 in the last 11 games vs. Indiana, but the Hoosiers have won the last three games.
  • Michigan is 6-2 against Indiana at home in their last 8 games.
  • The Wolverines are 3-4 ATS, Indiana 2-4 ATS this season.
  • Michigan takes four more threes and makes four more per game than Indiana.
