Jacob deGrom signs with Texas Rangers on a five-year deal

Jacob deGrom signed a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers. He opted out of a long-term deal at the New York Mets to test free agency. The deal is worth $37 million per year. It is the second highest ever for a major league player. DeGrope's former teammate Max Scherzer has a deal worth more per season. The Rangers spent more than $500 million on veterans Marcus Semien and Corey Seager last year, hoping to jump-start a rebuild. They finished fourth in the American League West. Their No. 3 and 4 starters from 2022 remain unsigned.
