Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz Betting Odds: Jake Paul favored over Diaz

Despite Jake Paul's latest loss to Tommy Fury, the star YouTuber will take on former UFC fan favorite Nate Diaz this summer. Check out the updated early odds for Paul vs. Diaz as the two get ready to exchange blows in the Lone Star State.

YouTube star-turned-boxer Jake Paul is returning to the ring to face Nate Diaz on August 5. Despite lacking experience, Paul has been selling fights due to his fame and promotional abilities.

Meanwhile, Diaz will take part in his first boxing match after departing the UFC following a career that saw him become one of their biggest draws due to his aggressiveness and brash personality.

The bout will take part at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and will be scheduled for eight rounds at 185 pounds. Here are the early Paul vs. Diaz odds for August 5.

Odds for Paul vs Diaz

Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz odds analysis

Paul is coming off his first career defeat after losing by split decision to Tommy Fury earlier this year. Paul was a slim -138 favorite for that fight and he has been a bigger favorite in every other bout he has competed in, with money usually pouring in on the "Problem Child".

The 26-year-old Paul has shown massive improvement as a boxer since starching amateurs like AnEsonGib and former NBA player Nate Robinson in his first two fights. He followed up on that by knocking out Ben Askren and then defeated former UFC middleweight champion Tyron Woodley twice in a row.

Paul faced one of the greatest MMA strikers in Anderson Silva last October and dispatched him over eight rounds with scores of 78–73 (twice) and 77–74. Silva was 47 years old while Woodley was never known as a striker and had a massive reach disadvantage. On the other hand, Fury was almost identical to Paul in terms of size, age, and boxing experience.

While Nate Diaz has an identical reach to Paul, he fought at 155 and 170 pounds during his MMA career and is well past his prime at age 38. Diaz left the UFC last September after submitting Tony Ferguson in the fourth round, finishing with a 16-11 record in the octagon.

Diaz isn't just an entertaining brawler that sounds good on the mic. He has sparred against elite pro boxers like Andre Ward and was considered one of the more technical boxers in the UFC. He isn't extremely fluid and doesn't have the best head movement or footwork, but the Stockton native has strong fundamentals and throws with plenty of volume. Diaz also possesses an iron chin and a seemingly endless gas tank.

How to read boxing odds

The most common way to bet on a boxing match is picking the overall winner of the bout. With Paul being the favorite for this fight, the minus sign (-) is in front of his odds at -275. That means bettors would need to wager $275 to win $100. A Diaz win would pay out more, as he's the underdog at +200. A $100 wager would lead to a $200 profit.

Other prop bets will become available closer to the fight date, such as the method of victory and round betting.
