Jamie Kah heading back to Hong Kong

When Jamie Kah was in Hong Kong representing Australia in the International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley in early December, the Hong Kong Jockey Club made overtures to Kah, sounding her out about the possibility of her accepting a riding contract to ride in Hong Kong for an extended period of time.

Kah resisted a temptation that many others would have jumped at, telling the Moody On The Mic Podcast, that, although she enjoyed riding in Hong Kong, she didn’t like the lifestyle there and that, “I missed my animals, missed my horses. There’s so much here I want to tick off still, and I feel like I’d be missing opportunities here.”

But Kah never ruled out a return visit to Hong Kong … and now she is due to return there earlier than expected, albeit on a hit-and-run mission, after being offered the ride aboard the Ricky Yiu trained Voyage Bubble in the Hong Kong Classic Mile on Sunday.

Kah was Ricky Yiu’s first port of call after jockey Mickael Barzalona, who was originally booked as Voyage Bubble’s rider, picked up a suspension while riding in Dubai which ruled him out of the Classic Mile race-day.

Voyage Bubble, who was a narrow end-to-end winner over 1600m at Sha Tin in his last start in his first attempt at the distance, was purchased by Ricky You for $360 000 at the Inglis Classic sale.

The Deep Field gelding has raced on eight occasions for three wins, three second placings and one third place.

Kah’s visit is dependant on the issuing of the relevant visa in time for her to make the trip.
