Jiri Lehecka vs Casper Ruud – Match Predictions

Casper Ruud to Win

After forcing his way to the finals of the Bastad Open, Casper Ruud fell to French teenage sensation, Arthur Fils in the Hamburg quarter-finals. He struggled in the German port city, with his two wins coming in three-set affairs. As he turns his focus towards hard-court events, Lehecka can be a worthy opponent. They have met once before, last year in Gstaad where the Norwegian triumphed in straight sets. A similar fate to their latest encounter is expected, especially given the indifferent performances of Lehecka in recent weeks.

Over 22.5 Games

Interestingly, Ruud’s last two wins came in three-setters. The marathon fixtures saw a number of games extended and it could have played a part in his defeat to Fils. He has had a week’s rest but is now transitioning to hard courts after playing his last seven matches on clay. Lehecka can pick him apart given his recent battling outings, the 2-1 defeat to Arnaldi in Umag and 2-1 win over Nakashima in the National Bank Open first round. Finding a victor will not be easy as the duo have shown their resilient side, based on which we expect a long outing with at least 22.5 games seen.

Jiri Lehecka vs Casper Ruud Preview

Our predictions for this match have now been established, let’s see how these players have fared so far in the Canadian Open.

Jiri Lehecka

Lehecka reached the fourth round in Wimbledon before being stopped by Daniil Medvedev. He took a well-earned fortnight break before appearing in Umag, where he was ousted in a three-set duel with Matteo Arnaldi in the second round. He has started in the same vein in Toronto with a 2-1 win over Brandon Nakashima. While he showcased his ability to dig out results, he will be wary of rivals with a better pedigree that do not let a chance slip and if given an opportunity take you to the cleaners.

Casper Ruud

Following his third-round exit in Wimbledon, Ruud silenced his detractors as he forced his way to the Bastad Open finals. The Norwegian ace had no answer to Andriy Rublev, who finished the match in just 93 minutes, putting up a bagel against him in the second set. The run in Sweden took a toll o on him as he struggled to give his best and after two three-setters, was ousted in the Hamburg quarter-finals. With much-needed rest under his belt, Ruud will have to make the quick transition to hard court in Toronto.

Jiri Lehecka vs Casper Ruud Head to Head

Ruud and Lehecka met for the only time in Gstaad last year. The Norwegian claimed a 2-0 victory in the second round over him on his way to lifting the trophy.
