Jordan Spieth had a Masters to chuck in the bin last year (cut) – however, the current world number 16 is a past green jacket winner (2015) and that experience is a big plus around Augusta.
The 29 year-old has also posted runners-up finishes at the Masters (2014 and 2016), while since 2014 has recorded five ‘top three’ finishes, which gives him an overall Augusta record to make him dangerous again in 2023.
Since that famous 2015 Augusta win, Spieth has slid back to number 16 in the world rankings after a a slight drop in form, but he’s been playing better in recent months and many feel he’s in with a chance at this week’s Masters.
This is backed up by Spieth winning the 2021 Valero Texas Open and more recently the RBC Heritage last April.
The three-time major winner has also shown a good level of form during the early part of this year – being in the shake-up in most of the events he’s entered. Having won the Masters, US Open and Open, then it’s just the PGA Championship that Spieth needs to win to compete the majors slam.
Spieth’s putting has been the one aspect of his game that’s fallen back in recent years, but there are signs he’s turned a corner here. If Spieth can get the putter working on the greens, at a course we know he likes – then he must be in with a chance of landing second green jacket on Sunday.
When Spieth won the Masters in 2015 he shot a remarkable -18, which is the second lowest ever Masters score behind Dustin Johnson’s -20 in 2020.
Finally, a fun fact for you here. Spieth seems to enjoy playing around Easter – in 2021 and 2022 he won a tournament on the PGA tour on Easter Sunday!
