Kentucky Oaks 2023: See standings after 29 of 32 preps

Wet Paint continued to hold the lead, and Ashland (G1) winner Defining Purpose moved into third place in the qualifying standings for the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.

Trained by Kenny McPeek, Defining Purpose went off at 20-1 odds in winning the Ashland, one of six prep races worth 100 points to the victor and, thus, an automatic berth into the field of 14 fillies for May 5 race at Churchill Downs.

Defining Purpose joined Fantasy (G3) winner Wet Paint, Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) victor Southlawn and Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) winner Affirmative Lady in being assured of places in the gate for the Kentucky Oaks.

The Gazelle (G3) at Aqueduct and the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) in California, two 100-40-30-20-10 points preps, will be run Saturday. The Beaumont (G2), a 10-4-3-2-1 qualifier to finish the road to the Oaks, is set for next Saturday at Keeneland.

Here are the latest Kentucky Oaks qualifying standings as reported by Churchill Downs. Fillies taken out of consideration are not included. Those without points who are entered for Saturday preps are listed.
