Kevin Durant Odds & Props

The Phoenix Suns formed a "Big 3" over the offseason but we're yet to see them all in action due to injuries. With the lowly Spurs in town, our NBA picks think this will be a night Vogel will call on the supporting cast to do the heavy lifting.

Early on this NBA season, Kevin Durant has been the lone constant in what is clearly an all-in roster. We could see more of the same on Tuesday when the Phoenix Suns host the San Antonio Spurs — with NBA odds labeling PHX as a moderate favorite.

Durant is under the spotlight of my NBA player props for Spurs vs. Suns, and while he always makes an impact, there shouldn’t be a need for him to go supernova.

I've looked through all of the Kevin Durant odds available to me to provide my favorite NBA picks regarding the "Slim Reaper".

Kevin Durant NBA prop pick

Under 31.5 points (-115)

For a guy who has played just 137 games in the previous three seasons, Durant has been keeping the Phoenix Suns together in the early part of this campaign.

Bradley Beal (back) has yet to suit up in his new digs and has already been ruled out, while Devin Booker (foot) has been out since lighting up the Warriors on opening night, and is doubtful for this one.

KD, meanwhile, just keeps hooping. His next opponent is coming off a 123-83 obliteration at the hands of the LA Clippers Sunday. San Antonio is currently next-to-last in points against, giving up a whopping 123.7 points per game, and also 29th in field goal shooting, allowing opponents to hit at a 50.3% clip.

Phoenix also has shown a strong defensive mettle under new head coach Frank Vogel. They’re third in points allowed at 102.7, second in field goal shooting defense at 40.6%, and hold opponents to an NBA-best 24.8% from downtown.

As role players usually do, the Suns’ supporting cast looked great in their home opener against the Jazz. Eric Gordon had 21 points, while Grayson Allen had his best output of the year with 14. Drew Eubanks, Jordan Goodwin, and Jusuf Nurkic all tallied in double digits, as Phoenix shot a blistering 52.9% from the field.

This can potentially follow the same script for Phoenix as the last game. There’s no doubt Durant will get his, but if all goes according to plan, he should be relaxing on the bench for much of the fourth quarter while his teammates take care of business.

Prop: Under 31.5 points (-115 at bet365)

Kevin Durant NBA same-game parlay

Durant Under 31.5 pts

Durant Under 3.5 TO

Durant Over 1.5 made threes

If you’re left wanting for more after you’ve punched in your KD scoring prop, then may I suggest a three-legged same-game parlay centered around the 35-year-old Durant.

One that stands out is his turnover total, which comes in a little high at 3.5. Durant is averaging four turnovers a game in the young season, but that number is inflated by an ugly eight-turnover evening in the Lakers’ game.

Tasked with being the team’s primary ball handler against an L.A. defense that can be elite at times, Durant folded under the pressure. He’s had just two turnovers in each of the other two games. The Spurs played Dallas and Houston tough (both single-digit losses), but Phoenix is on another tier. KD shouldn’t be near 40 minutes of play, which means less court time to turn the ball over.

If there’s one thing that Durant has struggled with in the early going is his marksmanship from 3-point range. KD has hit exactly one triple in each of the first three games on the year, hitting at a lowly 27.3% clip on 11 takes. That’s a far cry from the 38.5% career mark he’s compiled from distance.

It’s the first time in his short time with the Suns (21 games, including regular season and playoffs) he’s hit one or less 3-pointers in three straight games. Before getting traded from Brooklyn, Durant had three such stretches of one or less makes from beyond the arc in at least three straight games.

I think with or without his superteam mates, it just seems likely, and just a matter of time before the smooth-shooting Durant hits at least two triples in a game.
