Khaadem rallies home in Cazoo Scarbrough Stakes as William Buick lands a treble

The St. Leger Festival is one of the pinnacles of the flat-racing calendar and the oldest classic in the world, dating back to its first run in 1776.

The Festival is often dubbed as thebest sporting event in the Autumn, coming from the well established Doncaster Racecourse.

Last year's festival was sadly raced in front of no fans due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Restrictions also meant jockeys and trainers socially distanced and no other attendees were present.

Now though, the pinnacle of flat racing will have fans soaking up the atmosphere in an action-packed four days.

St Leger Festival: When is it?

The festival will take place between Wednesday, September 8 and Saturday, September 11.

Yorkshire’s classic St Leger festival is the highlight of the flat racing calendar.

It has been won by some legendary horses throughout the centuries and fans witness a piece of horse racing history each time.

St. Leger Festival: Who to back

WON - Khaadem 7/2 - Cazoo Scarbrough Stakes

Khaadem is the second favourite at the time of writing and trained by Charlie Hills. Hasn't got off the mark this season but in only five runs has still managed a couple of placings with this one seeming to suit more and well worth a punt over the favourite.

LOST - Highfield Princess 9/2 - Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies' Stakes

This feature race of the first day is quite open to say the least. Highfield Princess is among the top weight and it's easy to see why with the recent form.

Jason Hart steered her to glory at Ascot in the Buckingham Palace Stakes in June among a 28-strong field. Going back to Group 3 company on the back of current form is a great indicator for her to keep going well.

WON - Stradivarius 4/9 - Doncaster Cup Stakes

Stradivarius was so impressive last time out and returned to form staying on well to win by a head at the Lonsdale Cup Stakes at York.

Winning by a small margin might be on the cards today up against the likes of King George VI Chase winner and outsider at a massive 22/1, The Grand Visir.

Rodrigo Diaz is worth paying attention to as a solid second in his last run out in the Class 1 Group 3 race at Newbury last month.

LOST - Thousand Oaks 7/4 - British EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap

Current leader in the jockey championships, Oisin Murphy, rides the favourite of the final race on the Friday and is in with a great chance to add to his tally of wins this season.

The John Gosden-trained horse just gets the nod ahead of Sea La Rosa who came second last time out in York, and is likely to build on the Class 3 win at Newmarket in July over the same distance.

Hurricane Lane 4/6 - St Leger Stakes

The feature race of the festival, the St Leger, has Hurricane Lane at the forefront who looks justified at odds-on favourite as he's won the Dante Stakes, the Irish Derby and the Grand Prix de Paris.

The Irish-bred horse impressively placed in the Epsom Derby proving much more potential is there after performing so well in big races.
