MAMMA MIA, where did that come from?

Richard Hannon’s 16-1 shot Mamma’s Girl blew the Nell Gwyn Stakes field apart and is now a leading fancy for next month’s 1000 Guineas.

The stunning success formed part of an incredible 636-1 treble for owner and super agent Kia Joorabchian, who also struck with Surely Not (9-1) and Persian Dream (11-4) on the big card.

Mamma's Girl was an impressive winner on her debut at Newmarket back in October but was mostly ignored in the betting for this key Classic trial.

Hannon thought that was “disrespectful” - and he was proved right as she turned a red-hot looking race into a procession.

Top jock Sean Levey got her plenty of cover early doors and it took a while for the penny to drop, but when it did the response was impressive.

She streaked clear in the final 100 yards, much to the delight of Joorabchian who is emerging as a major force in UK Flat racing.

Mamma’s Girl is now 8-1 (from 33s) for the 1000 Guineas with Coral and Hannon said: “She was a massive price this morning which shocked me.

“I was really impressed with her when she won here on her debut and she is crying out for the step up to a mile.

“The only problem is that all my Classic winners have been beaten in their trials - so she is going to need to buck the trend!”

A grinning Joorabchian added: “I’m over the moon, she was amazing. This is my first winner on a big day at Newmarket, hopefully she’ll be my first Classic winner, too.”

"It's been a very good day!"

And Canberra Legend preserved his unbeaten record in the Feilden Stakes to set up a potential crack at the Derby.

He is now a general 20-1 shot for the June Classic and young trainer James Ferguson is weighing up whether to run in the 2000 Guineas or Dante on his way to Epsom.

He said: “We have always thought he was very good at home but it’s such a relief when they go and do it on the racecourse.

“I’m going to have a good long discussion with the owners but it definitely looks like he wants stepping up in trip.”
