Mammas Girl cut to 6-1 for 1,000 Guineas after leaving it late to strike in Nell Gwyn

The Richard Hannon-trained Mammas Girl caused a huge shock when striking late at 16-1 to land the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes under Sean Levey.

Owned by Amo Racing, the Havana Grey filly was running towards the back of the field in the final stages of the 7f contest but got her head in front to extend her unbeaten run to two starts.

As a result of her success, the three-year-old was cut to 8-1 and then 6-1 (from 50) with Coral and Paddy Power for the 1,000 Guineas at the same track next month.

Speaking to ITV Racing, Levey said: "You'd definitely fancy her on the big day!

"We thought she was quite talented after she came here [Newmarket] and won a maiden. She was impressive and was put away with this race in mind.

"There's no doubt she's improved in the winter and she looks like she'll come on for the run. I think there's a lot to take out of it because she's won impressively."

Mammas Girl finished two and three quarters clear of Fairy Cross in second, while 40-1 shot Secret Angel was third. The John and Thady Gosden-trained Coppice, who went off as favourite and is a general 7-1 for the 1,000 Guineas, had to settle for tenth.
