'Horse of a lifetime' blows rivals away after being sourced by trainer who buys runners for 'chicken feed'

ONE of the shrewdest judges in racing famed for buying future superstars for 'chicken feed' has unearted a 'horse of a lifetime'.

Robson Aguiar has teamed up with football superagent Kia Joorabchian to spearhead the sourcing of top talent for his Amo Racing operation.

Together with Irish trainer Adrian Murray, they look to have found a horse who could turn Amo into a global phenomenon.

Bucanero Fuerte was dubbed 'the horse of a lifetime' by Murray after he gave the operation their first Group 1 success last weekend.

Ridden by Kevin Stott, the two-year-old colt, who was bought for just over £140,000 a year ago, bossed rivals to win by four lengths.

The form looks strong, with runner-up Porta Fortuna having run out a convincing winner at Royal Ascot on her previous start.

While the third, Givemethebeatboys, is a Group 3 winner and fourth, Unquestionable, a £300,000 colt trained by Aidan O'Brien.

Punters were floored by the dominant style of the win at the Curragh.

One said: "Some animal."

Another commented the victory was a 'super special performance' while a fellow punter wrote simply: "Superstar."

Perhaps it was the words of Murray which meant the most though.

He said: "I think Bucanero Fuerte is a serious horse. That's three runs and three wins here, he's the horse of a lifetime."

Aguiar, who is from Brazil and went to the racing school in Sao Paulo with Silvestre de Sousa, learned the ropes in Ireland at Ballydoyle.

There he soaked up information like a sponge from the master O'Brien and now pre-trains horses for the racecourse.

Along the way, Aguiar has ridden some amazing horses including Camelot, Excelebration and Perfect Power.

But, prior to his win last weekend, Aguiar said Bucanero Fuerte was the best he had ever ridden.

When he operated on a smaller budget, Aguiar bought cheap horses then sold them for six-figure breeze-ups.

The objective is different now he is in part bankrolled by Joorabchian's operation.

Now he wants to find a stallion prospect - and to do that you really need a Classic winner.

Bookies Betfair reacted to Bucanero Fuerte's win by cutting him to 12-1 from 16s for the 2000 Guineas, with Coral going 10-1.

And if he succeeds on the big stage when it will be a family success for Aguiar.

Why? Because the horse is co-owned by his wife Giselle.

A clever man indeed.
