Kyle Walker-Peters makes his Southampton stance clear amid Premier League relegation prediction

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters says he never wants to let the club down after all that they've given him in his professional career.

The 25-year-old joined Saints on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in 2020 before making the move permanent a few months later. He has since made more than 100 appearances for the club and made his senior England debut while representing them, fulfilling a childhood dream.

The 2022/23 campaign has no doubt been the toughest of Walker-Peters' time on the south coast, with the club embroiled in a relegation battle that sees them bottom of the Premier League table with ten matches left to play.

This season's relegation battle is unlike any other, with as many as nine clubs all with a chance of going down to the Championship as we reach the climax of an exhilarating campaign.

Only four points separate Crystal Palace in 12th and Southampton in 20th, meaning it may only take a handful of results for clubs to either save themselves from the drop or potentially condemn themselves to relegation.

Speaking in Southampton's matchday programme ahead of Saturday's 3-3 draw with his former club Spurs at St Mary's, Walker-Peters said repaying the club for all that they've done for him by helping keep them in the top-flight is his biggest ambition for the season.

"That's my main focus, it means everything to me," said the defender. "Coming to Southampton, Southampton put me on that Premier League platform to play regularly. They really believed in me, and I think everyone would say it's been a great success.

"I've had such a great time at the club so far and, because of my performances, I've ended up playing for England.

"All the stuff that I thought to myself before leaving Tottenham has become a reality, so I'm forever grateful to Southampton for believing in me and bringing me here. Because I feel like Southampton have given me everything to really, really showcase myself, I don't want to ever let them down.

"You look at the difference between the position we're in and 12th place, it's five points (now four after the 3-3 draw with Tottenham). It's two games. I think it's definitely there for the taking, so we just have to stay focused, take it game by game, and I have the belief that we'll do it."
