THE LOWDOWN

LAZIO

It has been a season of general underwhelming underperformance so far for Lazio as they begin the weekend sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. The hosts did manage a much-needed 1-0 defeat of Feyenoord in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in midweek but they have remained generally inconsistent throughout.

What has marked out the majority of Maurizio Sarri’s sides has been a genuine attacking thrust, combined with a bit of control and general cohesion. Their last three matches consisting of just three goals in total contrasts to that greatly and would be a cause for concern for Sarri and Lazio moving forward.

ROMA

The third season of Jose Mourinho began as it typically does with poor form and the Portuguese manager constantly whinging about lots of things. What is different, though, is that the Romans have gradually improved and grown into the season with players like Leonardo Spinazzola and Lorenzo Pellegrini returning from injury.

Roma come into this on the back of a surprise 2-0 defeat to Slavia Prague in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League in midweek. They have, though, managed four victories in their last five Serie A matches as they try and move back towards the upper echelons of the table and UEFA Champions League contention.

THE TEAM NEWS

LAZIO

Maurizio Sarri will be without key attacker Mattia Zaccagni and the likes of Adam Marusic and Luis Alberto are doubts for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Patric, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Rovella, Luis Alberto; Anderson, Castellanos, Pedro

UNAVAILABLE: Zaccagni (Injured), Casale (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Marusic (Injured), Luis Alberto (Injured)

ROMA

Roma continue to have persistent injury concerns with the absences of Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham, whilst Nicola Zalewski is a doubt for the derby.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Mancini, Diego Llorente, Ndicka; Karsdorp, Bove, Cristante, Il Faraone; Dybala, Aouar; Lukaku

UNAVAILABLE: Smalling (Injured), Abraham (Injured), Kumbulla (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Zalewski (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Derby della Capitale is always a feisty and hostile affair – that will be even more so the case after the pre-match press conference sparring between Maurizio Sarri and Jose Mourinho. Both teams have generally underperformed at the start of this season and will want to have been doing better than their current mid-table positions but both teams have gradually improved. Neither side have showed excellent organisational, defensive qualities but they have both shown a capability to be rigid and a rigid, tight, tense affair is likely to produce a low-scoring derby.
