Leicester City won’t block Timothy Castagne transfer exit this summer

Timothy Castagne will be allowed to leave Leicester City this summer if an appropriate offer comes in for the Belgium international.

The 27-year-old defender is one of a number who will be looking to leave Leicester following their relegation from the Premier League and the club are unlikely to stand in any players’ way should they desire a move.

Despite their roles in relegation, there is expected to be interest in Leicester’s internationals and the club are realistic about allowing them to stay in senior leagues.

Seven players have already left Leicester at the expiration of their contracts but more are expected to follow, including Castagne, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, as Leicester look to reduce the wage bill and generate funds to be reinvested into the squad in preparation for a promotion push next season.

The futures of midfielder Dennis Praet and defender Jannik Vestergaard are also expected to be decided this summer as Leicester face a busy summer of player trading, although the priority is the appointment of a new manager.

Leicester’s director of football, Jon Rudkin, has been speaking to the representatives of a number of candidates to succeed Brendan Rodgers, including interim manager Dean Smith.

Meanwhile, Leicester have announced a domestic friendly as they prepare for the start of the Championship season on the weekend of August 5.

The new manager will take charge for the first time at Northampton Town on July 15 before they fly out to take on Tottenham Hotspur in Bangkok on July 23 and Liverpool in Singapore on July 30.
