Leicester return to Championship football after spending ten years in the elite. They had a dreadful Premier League campaign last time out under Brendan Rodgers and their fans need to be prepared for new adventures in the second tier of English football.
The new Leicester era starts on Sunday as the team play host to Coventry in the M69 derby in the first round of the 2023/24 season at King Power Stadium.
The match will also mark the debut for new manager Enzo Maresca on the bench. Maresca will most likely hand four debutants a place in the starting XI on Sunday as only injuries will prevent the likes of Callum Doyle, Mads Hermansen, Stephy Mavdidi, and Harry Winks from featuring from the first minute here.
The Foxes had a mixed bag of results in preseason. They ended the summer exhibitions with a tough 0-4 defeat at the hands of Liverpool last weekend.
It will be interesting to see the impact such a tough loss will leave on Maresca’s players ahead of their maiden competitive game of the season.
Coventry, on the other side, return to Championship duties for the first time since the painful defeat on penalties to Luton Town in the playoffs final in May this year.
They won three and drew one of four preseason friendlies, putting four goals past Forest Green and five past MK Dons in the process.
The Sky Blues will be aiming for the top-six finish once again and the opening round’s fixture against the likes of Leicester may give us some sort of a clue regarding their capabilities ahead of the new season.

The bookmakers see Leicester as pretty big favorites, pricing them at 1.57 to claim the spoils on the opening day. We don’t see any value there whatsoever knowing how strong Coventry have been in the previous Championship campaign.
The Sky Blues have also had a great preseason run and we will much rather back them to leave King Power Stadium undefeated on Sunday at the 2.30 odds. Both Teams To Score is another decent betting option at the 1.83 odds.
